RAHMA ABDULATIF

 

Rahma is a motivating and energetic counsellor and psychotherapist (member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapist). For many years now she has been seeing clients in secondary schools and privately. She is an NLP accredited practitioner, an accredited parenting practitioner - and runs parenting and coaching classes in the community.

 

Sister Rahma has had the opportunity to learn various Islamic topics with different qualified teachers within their fields (with Allah's blessing and was awarded a certificate for her achievements). Sister Rahma is been involved in Da'wah in the UK for over ten years now and is acutely aware of current challenges facing sisters within our community.

FATIMA BARKATULLAH

 

Fatima Barakatullah is a writer & public speaker and prominent Islamic da'eeah who contributes regularly to mainstream media. She is married with four energetic children Ma sha Allah.

 

Fatima had a rich Islamic education at an early age thanks to her parents and went on to study Arabic and Islamic studies in Egypt at prominent institutes such as Al Fajr Center, Qortoba Institute and a college of Al Azhar University. She continues to pursue her Islamic Law studies here in the UK and through visits abroad and she has attained a number of ijazahs (scholarly licences).

 

She has contributed to many documentaries and live shows which have been broadcast on stations and channels such as BBC Radio 4, the World Service, as well as BBC Television and Islam Channel. She also regularly contributes to discussions on London Radio stations.

 

Additionally, Fatima has written for the national newspaper The Times as well as contributing to Times Online's Faith section, on topics promoting the understanding of Islam, and has contributed to a number of Muslim publications such as Al-Jumuah Magazine, Emel Magazine, The Muslim Weekly and is a columnist for SISTERS Magazine.

AMINA BERETE

 

Amina Berete is an instructor and lecturer for iERA. She is also Ameerah of Muslim Now, the department of iERA dedicated to welcome, empower and provide education for New Muslims.

 

Over the past three years, she has developed a deep understanding and expertise of new Muslims' reality of life and challenges. More than just understanding their situation, one of her main concerns has always been to explore and develop effective structures to educate and empower new Muslims so that they can establish firm foundations and become strong believers, insha a'Allah.

 

Her main focus is Muslim empowerment and self-development through their connection with Allah.

ABU HAFSAH ABDUL MALIK CLARE

 

Abu Hafsah Abdul Malik Clare (Jerome Clare), was born totally without sight and raised in Canada. He started wrestling at the age of 9 and went on to become the first blind person to be accepted into a professional wrestling school. He embraced Islam in 1996 and started learning the Quran in Arabic Braille in 1997. Since embracing Islam, he has conveyed the message of Islam through Islamic workshops throughout various countries including Canada, the United Kingdom, Kenya and others.

UZMA MEER

 

Uzma has been involved in a variety of dawah related activities since joining iERA. Uzma also organised many Call of Duty courses across the country. Uzma then helped set up the iERA Sisters Dawah Team and managed them for one year, setting up various dawah projects, including Lifting the Veil, an event for non-Muslim women. Uzma also tutored the Sisters Dawah Team on dawah techniques on the field. She has also managed and moderator various Focus Groups for non-Muslim women about misconceptions regarding Islam.

 

Uzma has been consistently giving dawah to individual women expressing interest in Islam through iERA. Various dawah articles have also been written by Uzma, under the approval of Abdurraheem Green. These can be viewed on the One Reason website (iERAs dawah materials department) in the near future.

 

Uzma is an instructor and lecturer for iERA.

HAMZA ANDREAS TZORTZIS

 

Hamza Andreas Tzortzis is an international public speaker on Islam, a writer, lecturer, instructor and researcher. He is particularly interested in Islam, politics, western and Islamic thought and philosophy.

 

Hamza delivers workshops, seminars and courses on the foundations of Islamic thought. He is an instructor for iERA and AlKauthar Institute. Hamza has also delivered a short course on the intellectual foundations of Islam for the Islamic Online University for their Diploma course.

 

Hamza is a popular speaker at UK University campuses, and has also travelled the world extensively to deliver lectures, most notably in the USA, Australia, Netherlands, Malaysia, Canada and Lebanon. Hamza has authored a number of Islamic publications as well as serialising a number of articles on his popular blog.

 

Hamza is one of the main initiators of the contemporary emergence of Muslim public debaters and speakers using western and Islamic philosophy to defend and explain Islam. Hamza heads the research team and Lectures for iERA.

LAUREN BOOTH

 

Lauren Booth is a broadcaster and journalist, outspoken on issues as diverse as childhood vaccinations and the war in Iraq. She has presented shows for television and radio and regularly guests on programmes across the media. She has regular columns in the Mail on Sunday and writes features for the Sunday Times, Femail, New Statesman and the Daily Mail. She is a vocal opponent of the Iraq War, a supporter of the Stop the War Coalition and also servs as a patron of Cage Prisoners. She has been a panellist on the BBC's Have I Got News For You and a broadcaster on radio and television.

 

In 2005 and 2006 Lauren travelled to the West Bank where she has interviewed Mahmoud Abbas. She gave two speeches on the condition of those living in the West Bank and Gaza, for the Royal Geographical Society and Arab Media Watch. Lauren currently presents 'Remember Palestine' and 'Diaspora' on Press TV. Alongside working with Faith Matters on a project relating to women and the hijab in the UK

 

Lauren gives lectures internationally on several subjects, including; Islam and the Media, The Hijab and the concept of modesty and her Journey To Islam. Lauren reverted to Islam in 2010.

YVONNE RIDLEY

 

British-born journalist Sister Yvonne Ridley is well known in the Muslim world for her outspoken views and defence of Islam. She converted to Islam 30 months after making international headlines when she was captured by the Taleban on an undercover assignment in Afghanistan.

 

She was the chief reporter of the Sunday Express at the time, having spent nearly 10 years in Fleet Street working for several newspapers including The Sunday Times, The Observer, Daily Mirror, the News of the World and Independent on Sunday. Ridley set out as a regional journalist more than 35 years ago in her native North East. She has also worked as a broadcaster, producer and presenter on programmes for BBC TV and radio, CNN, ITN and Carlton TV travelling to Afghanistan, Iraq and Palestine. A founder member of Women in Journalism, she was also a promoter of women's rights, and is also a founder member of the Stop The War Coalition.

 

In her spare time Ridley travels throughout the UK and across the globe promoting peace and the anti-war message. She has also delivered lectures on issues relating to Iraq, Palestine, Afghanistan, Chechnya, Kashmir and Uzbekistan, Women in Islam, the War on Terror and journalism at universities across the US, Australia, South Africa and the Middle East. Ridley is a founder member of the Friends of Islam, an All Party Parliamentary Group and Women in Journalism. She is the European President of the International Muslim Womens Union (IMWU). In addition she is a member of the National Union of Journalists, the International federation of Journalists and the Society of Authors. She has written two books called "In The Hands of the Taleban" and "Ticket to Paradise". Ridley is a patron of the UK-based pressure groups Cage Prisoners. She also devotes much of her time to humanitarian work and charities.

 

Her company First Witness Productions based in Soho, London produces films and documentaries as well as makes programmes for TV.

ABDURRAHEEM GREEN

 

Abdurraheem Green embraced Islam over 20 years ago and since that time has been active in the field of da'wah. Abdurraheem was educated in a Christian monastic school and although held strong Christian principles dabbled with other religions. This continual quest to find meaning to life eventually led him to Islam.

 

Abdurraheem spent many years at Speakers' Corner in Hyde park, where he made his name as an inspirational orator. He has been delivering talks nationwide including universities during this time, and also on international platforms, such as the Peace Conference in Mumbai. He is a regular on Peace TV with many of his lectures widely watched online.

SHAYKH AKRAM NADWI

 

Shaykh Dr. Mohammad Akram Nadwi is from the Indian city of Lucknow and a graduate of the world renowned Nadwatul Ulama (India) where he studied and taught Shariah. Shaykh Akram is a Muhaddith of the highest calibre who has specialised in Ilm ul Rijal [the study of the narrators of Hadith]. He has Ijaza (licenses) from many of the most renowned scholars of our time including Shaykh Abul Hasan Ali Al-Nadwi, Shaykh Abdul-Fattah Abu Ghuddah and Shaykh Yusuf Al-Qaradawi. Shaykh Akram Nadwi has a doctorate in Arabic Language and has authored and translated over 25 titles on Language, Jurisprudence, Qur'an and Hadith.

 

In May 2010, he completed a monumental 57-volume work on the lives of female scholars of Hadith in Islamic History.

 

He is the recipient of the Allama Iqbal prize for contribution to Islamic thought. He is the principal instructor for the not-for-profit community organisation, Muslim Education & Outreach Cambridge (MEOC) and is currently a Research Fellow at the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies, Oxford University and is widely recognised as one of Western Europe's leading Islamic scholars.
